Together We Can

Together We Can
10th Annual Conference

The Jefferson Children’s Advocacy Center (JCAC) team is back in Jefferson Parish after attending the “Together We Can 10th Annual Conference” in Lafayette! The three-day, information-packed event included various workshops and presentations concerning the prevention and treatment of child victimization. Nearly 500 child advocates were in attendance at this great event.

JCAC’s Executive Director and Forensic Interviewer attended the Forensic Interviewer Peer Review while at the conference. Peer Review gave Forensic Interviewers from Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) across the state of Louisiana the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from the work practiced by other CACs. Through collaboration, CACs across the state can continually improve their efforts to provide legally sound best practice interviews.

Victor Vieth’s remarkable keynote address, “Unto a Third Generation: A Call to End Child Abuse within 120 Years,” was a definite highlight of the conference. Through his address, Mr.Vieth detailed the work he is executing as the Executive Director of the National Child Protection Training Center (NCPTC). NCPTC implements the Child Advocacy Studies (CAST) minor-- a multi-disciplinary curriculum currently offered to child protection workers. Twenty universities offer the CAST minor and 40,000 child protection workers have been trained so far. For more information about Victor Vieth and NCPTC’s efforts, please visit their website at http://www.ncptc.org/.

Jefferson Children’s Advocacy Center’s team is grateful to those who orchestrated and sponsored the Together We Can Conference! We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with child advocates.

Welcome to Jefferson Children's Advocacy Center's Blog!

Childhood is a time that we should all remember fondly….a time of youth, innocence and discovery.  Unfortunately for some, however, it is marked by secrets, confusion, shame and/or guilt.  Child abuse is a parent's worst fear and a child's worst nightmare.  Statistics continue to show that approximately 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will become a victim of sexual abuse by their 18th birthday.  Through education and a coordinated, compassionate interagency approach, the Jefferson Children's Advocacy Center (JCAC) believes that the fight against child abuse can be won.  As a nationally accredited CAC and partner of our state chapter, we provide legally sound, digitally-recorded forensic interviews, trauma-informed counseling services, sexual abuse education prevention programs for Jefferson Parish schools, businesses and community members, as well as regularly participate in community awareness activities .

On behalf of our staff, Board of Directors and children we serve, I thank you for taking the time to read our newly created blog.  We hope that you check back regularly for updates and spread the word.  For additional information, we can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, and our website (www.jeffersoncac.com).  Thank you again for visiting because together we can make a difference!

- Erika Dupépé, Executive Director
